Lots of interesting roads on this trip.
I had assumed the piles of rock were mine tailings but one of the park rangers told me it is glacial moraine. The ice is under the gravel and rock.
The town of McCarthy hasn't changed much in a hundred years.
This is the largest US national park and is bigger than the 9 smallest states. The park service is restoring the village of Kennecott and the copper mine buildings. From 1903 until 1938 a $100 million of copper was taken from 5 mines in the area. Current value would be well over a billion dollars.
